Pioneers lose early lead to the Bruins to end in defeat

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers were taken down by the George Fox Bruins after starting the game strong with an early lead. The Pioneers were only down by one run in the sixth inning, but went scoreless the rest of the game to finish with a score of 6-8. The Pioneers are now 2-13 in conference with an overall record of 5-19. 

The Pioneers had seven runners that were left on base, and only six people strike out with a total of nine batters that were walked. The Pioneers pitchers only walked three batters, but allowed one homerun. The Bruins pitchers struggled tonight with allowing triple the number of walks than the Pioneers.

Key Moments

The Pioneers started the top of second inning strong when Zack Kon singled down right field to allow Ryan Ericksen to score to get the Pioneers on the scoreboard. Dylan Moore then had a sacrifice fly to allow Jack Thomson to score. The Pioneers had the lead until the bottom of the third inning when the Bruins came back to tie the Pioneers with a score of 2-2. 

The Pioneers began the top of the sixth inning down 4-5, but tried to make a comeback. Stephen Baker singled to right center to get an RBI and allow Thomson to score again. Joey Oda continued the run streak for the Pioneers with a single to allow Baker to score. The Pioneers soon got their third out, and went scoreless the next three innings to finish in the Bruins favor.
