Pios end long home stretch with loss to PLU


PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers long home stretch is over and it ended on Saturday night with a 23-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-10 loss to the Pacific Lutheran Lutes at Pamplin Sports Center.

The loss moves the Pios to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in the Northwest Conference, two games ahead of last-place George Fox. The Lutes' conference mark is now 7-3, a half-game behind Puget Sound for second place.

Julia Somers finished with her seventh double-double of the season after logging 10 kills and 10 digs. The sophomore had her first .100-plus hitting percentage game in the last four.

Alexe Navarro added 21 digs, while Victoria Hernandez picked up 13. Emma Contreras posted nine kills and Kortney Meyer added eight. Casey Myszkowski had four blocks.

Annika San Nicolas started for the second-straight night and Anneke Banda played in her second career match at Lewis & Clark and posted a kill.


Lewis & Clark's last home match is part of Homecoming and Family Weekend on Oct. 29 against Willamette. The Pioneers travel to George Fox next Friday at 7 p.m.
